The worst part of being in lockdown for me was not being able to visit my favourite place, Zealandia Ecosanctuary. Lockdown in NZ happened to coincide with the best time of year for bird watching, and while I enjoyed the increase of birds to my garden I knew it would have been incredible in the sanctuary. So when level 2 was announced and Zealandia could open again I headed back there as soon as they opened. It was such a different vibe than before lockdown, the temperature was much lower and there were less birds fluttering around. Things tend to slow down in winter naturally, and birds are harder to find, but it was still so great to be able to explore all my favourite tracks and see my favourite birds.
Since reopening I’ve been a few times, I’ve got lots of photos to share, so stay tuned!
