Boggy Pond
Boggy Pond is one of those places that when I tell people I went to Boggy Pond they look at me blankly. It’s a rather strange name, but it’s actually quite fitting when you see this place. The pond is on the fringe of Lake Wairarapa and has a range of waterbirds that are quite accessible and easy to see. I went for a quick morning walk a few weeks ago and saw lots of Welcome Swallows and a few introduced but cute bird species. The bird I really wanted to see was a Bittern, a sneaky large brown heron-like bird that are very elusive and notoriously difficult to find! I managed to hear 3 that were making their distinctive booming sound but didn’t spot any sadly, but managed to get some photos of birds that weren’t so hard to find! Here are a few pics from the day…
