Finding tiny birds
I am so excited to say that I’ve seen tītipounamu/Rifleman chicks in the wild at Zealandia! I can’t put into words how exciting it is that there are now these tiny babies exploring the sanctuary. Last week I saw 8 chicks in the wild - from 2 families and a couple of days ago I saw another 4 chicks from a different family, it’s beyond exciting, and just so great that there’s now a breeding population of tītipounamu in Wellington. At the start of this year I would see other peoples photos of these birds and wonder how anyone got any photos of them at all, on account of them being so tiny and also their fast slightly nature. So I was ecstatic to get some photos of the chicks, aren’t they adorable!!
