Going Places - Makara Beach

Makara beach is a rugged bit of coastline around the south/south west of Wellington. On a sunny weekend it gets filled with people (been there, done that, hated it), so Andre and I decided to try and avoid the masses and go on a weekday, it was so much better! There is a 2-3 hour walk up over a hill and around the coast, we tried but chickened out, part of it was a tiny track literally right on the edge of a cliff, I get really shakey when it comes to heights so I couldn't bring my self to do it, so we went for a stroll around the rocky coast instead.

There weren't as many birds as I was hoping for, but I met these adorable little pipits, they were surprisingly friendly and didn't seem to mind me taking photos of them. I was hoping to see a mysterious and elusive Reef Heron, but no such luck. The only Herons I saw were out common White Faced Heron. Nonetheless it was a nice walk and good to experience more of what Wellington has to offer.

A happy starfish. It was stuck in a grubby rock pool and I moved it to a nice fresh water one. I think it was happy with its new home.
