Shakey times
I can't believe Christmas is only 5 weeks away! Time has gone so fast and I don't feel entirely prepared. I've been busy getting stock together for Thorndon Fair, the only market I do every year, but I've had a few setbacks.
Last Monday morning there was a massive earthquake centered in Kaikoura, a beautiful small town on the East coast of the South Island. The quake has ben devastating for many people and wildlife, including seal colonies and also Huttons shearwater colonies which nest on the cliff faces high about Kaikoura. We are always aware the earth is moving beneath us but I don't think anyone really expects a quake that size - it was a 7.8 and directed north - to Wellington where I live.
Although I didn't have any damage to myself (apart from being obviously terrifying) and my possessions were unscathed it really shook me up. But life goes on and I want to make the most of the Christmas season.
I had to give up on my 100 days project, it was taking up too much of my time, and with working full time and only having evenings and weekends to work on my Bird Plus Bird life it simply wasn't working out. It was successful for me though because I have a bunch of new illustrations that I'm going to be selling as prints very soon!
I hope by the next blog I'll have more good news and will be knee deep in the Christmas shopping season!
